Monster Monday & Weekend Inspirations

Three hilarious reasons to own a rabbit:
  1. He will yawn. And then you will get to see all four of his funny-looking teeth.
  2. He will try very hard to share your peach smoothie with you.
  3. He will mark your possessions as his territory by rubbing his chin all over them (apparently rabbits possess a scent gland under their chins that humans cannot detect).
This is my laptop now. And my blog. That bike in the corner is mine, too.

Moving on.

I've been trying to take more cues from the elements around me these days. To be mindful. To be open to inspiration. To be, well...a sponge.

This effort sprang from the similar endeavor of a close friend, a driven and intelligent individual who possesses a beautiful sense of self-worth (I wish more twentysomethings  realized the value of this last trait). Anyway, she's also the one who shared her strawberry jam with me, and in  a roundabout chain of events, she claims that her inspiration for  this culinary venture was actually my entry question for last week's Music Giveaway

Whew, that was a lot of explanation. Bottom line: she's now on a mission to try something new each week--a brilliant idea. So, in a similar vein, my own goal is to keep track of one or two new things I try on a weekly basis. The record of all those experiences--be they written, visual, whathaveyou--will be a constantly changing pool of inspiration to pull from when I'm stuck in a project rut.

Thanks is due in part to Laurie Safari for her thoughts on keeping track.

New Experiences from this Weekend:

Jamaican fruit juice and soda with unRonic.

Breadfruit. WOW. More, please!

Maplewoodstock.

Hoboken's Waterfront.

Best view of the Manhattan skyline I've ever seen.

6 ice cubes + 1 peach + 2 tsp Stevia + splash o' milk = simple smoothie perfection.
With a little cinnamon and cardamom thrown in for good measure.

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Mostly I tried to stay out of the record highs of 111, but I was working on a new hummus recipe and ended up with four pounds of it! I am not sure how that happened, but oh the joy of trying to make new food. I also made some very tasty Smore's Brownies. Yum.

  2. I worked and worked, went to a co-workers party/gathering and went river rafting (first time so this can be considered something new!)

P.S. I love your blog:) Makes it seem like your not so far away!

  3. Awww I want a rabbit! I want a rabbit so bad! They're illegal in Queensland though :( My husband and I have seriously considered moving to another state so we can have a rabbit.
In the meantime I'll console myself with pictures of your little guy :)

  4. Design Morsels -- I am jealous of your hummus abundance! Have you figured out what you're going to do with all of it yet? I've come across a few spicy noodle recipes that include a sauce made from hummus. Looks tasty and out-of-the-box.

Liz -- Your compliments warm my heart :) Thanks for reading. Only another two and a half weeks and we WON'T be far away! Also, your river rafting trip sounds so badass.

L, S & S -- Fascinating! Why are they illegal there? In my opinion, the move would be worth it ;) Happy to hear the photos of Monster are bringing someone a little joy. And hey, thanks for reading.
